AKTION CLUB &
Bit-By-Bit INFORMATION
Division 17 has developed a new Community
Service Project in cooperation with Ken Marino's Bit-By-Bit Horse
Farm in Wind Gap, PA. Each month a group of Kiwanis members
assisted by other Kiwanis youth organizations will be
hosting the Aktion Club members from Stroudsburg, PA,
children from the Easton Children's Home and others.
This
program will help these citizens develop more
self-confidence and raise their self-esteem by working with
large animals.
It is a proven fact that there is a
therapeutic effect when persons with disabilities interact
with large animals such as horses.
This new program is
spearheaded by Ken Marino and Carl Brown of the Palmer Kiwanis Club and Sue
Folk of the Stroudsburg Kiwanis Club.
Other
youth organizations are being invited to attend and enjoy
the learning experience of being around large animals in a
farm setting. Each month after the hour-long horse grooming
and riding session
there is some other "horsing around" and camaraderie with
refreshments.
